Student Life

What a year here is like

  • 01

A calendar that looks like Sri Lanka

PCHE marks the festivals of every community its students come from. Avurudu, Vesak, Poson, Thai Pongal, Christmas and Eid all appear on the calendar, alongside Halloween and the annual Soiree.

  • 02

Run by students, not for them

The student council organises most of what happens on campus. Finding sponsors, managing a draw, settling a dispute over a scoreline: none of it is on a syllabus and all of it transfers.

  • 03

    Debating, sport and competition

The debating society trains weekly and enters national competitions. Inter-programme tournaments run through the year, and the college fields teams at inter-collegiate level.

  • 04

    Workshops beyond the timetable

Art therapy, workplace motivation, research skills and seminars led by academics from our partner universities, open to every cohort rather than only the programme they belong to.

Student reviews

  • I joined PCHE after completing my A/Ls. The practical exposure, experience and opportunities I received throughout the Diploma in Early Childhood Education, which included placements at well-equipped preschools, prepared me well to commence the second year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Deakin University. The lecturers, as well as the Director of Academics, personally supported, guided and motivated me throughout my learning journey.

  • I love working with kids and found that a degree in early childhood education would let me fulfil my dream of becoming an effective early childhood educator. I enrolled for the Diploma at PCHE because I wanted to complete the pathway programme in Sri Lanka and continue at Deakin from the second year onwards. The curriculum was comprehensive and covered diverse topics.

  • I recently arrived at Deakin University in Melbourne, and what a journey it has been. It began when I enrolled at PCHE to pursue a Diploma in Early Childhood Education leading to a bachelor's degree at Deakin. I had limited knowledge of the subject areas, but the lecturers, led by the Director of Academics, were helpful, friendly and approachable, and gave me invaluable, in-depth insight into the industry.
